Oof, it’s been a while. But that’s life. It always gets in the way of my best intentions somehow. But the important thing is to pick back up where you left off and keep going.
In no particular order:
- I went on holiday. I got to see manatees and thunderstorms and dolphins. The world is wide, deep and full of beautiful, exciting and strange things.
- I finished Absalom, Absalom! which is a book that rewards patience and slow reading. I have been thinking a lot about the importance of taking things slowly. Slow food, slow travel, slow reading. Really taking the time to savour the experiences and understand nuances.. as opposed to quickly checking off a to-do list or skimming to get the highlights.
- I have also been thinking about how quickly life changes. The life described in Absalom is one that was normal three generations ago. What will life be like in another generation? Not just technology, but values and social norms change so quickly — even though it feels slow while it happens.
- There is ragu cooking, ready to be turned into lasagna. It smells amazing. If you have a spare day this week/weekend I strongly recommend making ragu. You can use this meaty BBC recipe or this vegan one as a starting place.
