And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is’.
Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country
I am happier than I’ve been in a while. This is particularly impressive considering I am in the last throes of moving house, and my entire life is in boxes right now.
Of course, last year was incredibly challenging for a lot of us. Vaccines have taken a lot of my anxiety about covid away, and a booster shot every six months or so seems like a small price to pay for not ending up with a debilitating illness.
In addition, I recently eliminated a major source of stress in my life, and the peace and mental space that has brought me is incredible.
Yesterday I went for a long walk around a country park. It was one of those perfect autumn days; blue skies, crisp air, golden leaves.
On top of that, things are finally changing: we’re moving to a place with some private outdoor space, I’ll be closer to my BFF, and I’m about to take a few months out to spend time with my partner’s family in the States.
I’m excited about the future. I’m pleased with the decisions I’ve made recently.
It’s important to notice when we’re happy.
